LOS PILARES DE LA TIERRA ( KEN FOLLET)

ANTES QUE NADA, DEBO AGRADECER A MR. ANDREI NITA POR RECOMENDAR Y PRESTARME ESTA JOYA DE LIBRO.

VOY A TRATAR DE SER LO MAS BREVE POSIBLE CON MI REFLEXION DEL LIBRO (LOS PILARES DE LA TIERRA):

NO SE SI ESTE LIBRO ES UN CLASICO DE LA LECTURA (ES UN BEST-SELLER, QUIEN NO LO ES EN ESTOS TIEMPOS?) PERO LO QUE SI SE ES QUE VALE LA PENA EL TIEMPO A INVERTIR EN ESTA LECTURA (DE 1000 A 1300 PAGINAS DEPENDIENDO LA EDICION).

POR PRIMERA VEZ, UN AUTOR HA PODIDO CONTAGIARME DE LAS EMOCIONES Y VIVENCIAS DE SUS PERSONAJES PRINCIPALES, LAS PERSONAS ALTAMENTE SENTIMENTALES (COMO YO) VAN A LLORAR MAS DE UNA VEZ MIENTRAS SE ENCUENTREN SUMERGIDOS EN LOS PILARES DE LA TIERRA, PORQUE EL LIBRO ESTA SOBRECARGADO DE ACONTECIMIENTOS DE ODIO, TRAICION, VIOLENCIA, BRUTALIDAD, VIOLACIONES, MIEDO, HAMBRUNA, AMBICION, MUERTE Y DEMAS CALAMIDADES COMO TAMBIEN TIENE UNA GRAN DESCARGA DE HISTORIAS DE AMOR, TERNURA, FIDELIDAD, HONESTIDAD, VENGANZA, AUTORIDAD Y PODER, ORGULLO, SUENIOS HECHOS REALIDAD Y AMISTAD VERDADERA.

EL ESCENARIO QUE EL ESCRITOR HA ESCOGIDO PARA EL LIBRO ES LA EPOCA MEDIEVAL, DONDE LOS DOS MAS GRANDES PODERES (TAL VEZ COMO SIGUEN SIENDO HASTA AHORA PERO CON ALGUNOS CAMBIOS) SON LA IGLESIA Y LA MONARQUIA. LA EPOCA DONDE LOS REYES, LOS CABALLEROS (TEMPLARIOS???), LOS CONDES, DUQUES SE ENFRENTAN AL PAPA, ARZOBISPOS, LOS OBISPOS, SACERDOTES Y MONJES SE DISPUTAN LA SUPREMACIA INICIANDO UNA GUERRA CIVIL QUE TRANCURRIO POR VARIAS DECADAS.

EL PLOT ES LA CONSTRUCCION DE UNA DE LAS MAS IMPONENTES CATEDRALES DE LA EPOCA COMO EJE CENTRAL DE LA HISTORIA, EL INJUSTO AHORCAMIENTO DE UN PERSONAJE (JACK SHAREBURG) QUE ES INOCNETE DA INICIO A LA NOVELA Y EL MUY JUSTO Y MERECIDO AHORCAMIENTO DE UNO DE LOS PERSONAJES ANTAGONICOS NOS REVELA EL FINAL DE LA HISTORIA, NO VOY A ENTRAR MUCHO EN LOS PERSONAJES PRINCIPALES PARA QUE USTEDES TB VIVAN EL EFECTO SORPRESA, PERO TOM, ALIENA, JACK, PRIOR PHILIP, ELLEN Y THOMAS BECKETT COMO PARTE DE LOS BONDADOSOS DE LA HISTORIA NOS HACEN PARTICIPES DE LA SERIE DE EVENTOS QUE LOS RODEAN, MIENTRAS QUE LOS MALVADOS WILLIAM HAMLEIGH, WALERAN BIGOD, PETER OF WERHAM, Y CASI TODOS LOS REYES NOS DESPIERTAN UNA INSACIABLE SED POR QUE SE HAGA JUSTICIA. HAY OTROS PERSONAJES COMO MARTHA, RICHARD Y FRANCIS QUE A MI EN LO PARTICULAR NO ME CAUSARON NINGUNA EMOCION.

COMO TODO BEST- SELLER EL AUTOR NOS CREA UNA ADICCION A LA TRAMA QUE A PRINCIPIO DEL LIBRO NO SE PUEDE PARAR DE LEER Y AL ACERCARSE EL FINAL SE QUIERE REDUCIR EL PASO PARA QUE EL LIBRO NO SE ACABE, CLARO QUE ESTE NO ES SU MAYOR ATRIBUTO PORQUE TODO BUEN LIBRO PROVOCA ESTE EFECTO.

PARA MI EL MAYOR ATRIBUTO DEL LIBRO ES QUE NUMERO UNO, TRANSPORTA AL LECTOR A LA EPOCA, NUMERO DOS, CONVIERTE AL LECTOR EN FIEL DEFENSOR DE LOS BUENOS Y CAZADOR DE LOS MALOS, NUMERO TRES, SIN ABRUMAR AL LECTOR CON LECCIONES DE CRISTIANISMO AL FINAL DEJA CLARO QUE EL HOMBRE POR MAS DINERO Y PODER NO PUEDE LUCHAR CONTRA LOS DESIGNIOS DE DIOS, Y POR ULTIMO, LOGRA MANIPULAR EL ESTADO DE ANIMO DEL LECTOR POR MEDIO DE LOS ACONTECIMIENTOS.

POR OTRO LADO, NINGUN LIBRO ES PERFECTO Y ESTE NO ES LA EXCEPCION, ME PARECE QUE FOLLET DEJO DE LADO MUCHAS SITUACIONES IMPORTANTES (COMO EL VIAJE A SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA,LA REUNION ENTRE JONATHAN Y MARTA DESPUES DE DESCUBRIR QUIENES SON, LA VIDA DE FRANCIS, Y ADENTRARNOS UN POCO MAS A LA VIDA DE THOMAS BECKETT ANTES DE INMORTALIZARLO) Y ADEMAS DE QUE EL LIBRO LLEVA UNA SECUENCIA ALTERNADA DONDE EL PROTAGONISMO Y ANTAGONISMO SON RELEVADOS DE UN PERSONAJE A OTRO Y EN ALGUNOS CASOS SE TARDO MUCHO EN REVELAR LA CONTINUACION DE ALGUNA ESCENA, ADEMAS DE LLEVARNOS AL PUNTO DE QUE EL MAL NUNCA TERMINA HASTA CASI EL FINAL.

PERO APRENDI MUCHO AUQUE LOS HECHOS SON FICTICIOS SON ADORNADOS POR DATOS REALES, COMO LA OPRESION QUE SUFRE UN PUEBLO POR MANO DE SUS MALVADOS GOBERNANTES ( COMO HASTA NUESTROS DIAS SI NO DIGANME DE KOREA DEL NORTE Y MUCHOS DE LOS PAISES ARABES), LA IMPORTANCIA DE LAS CATEDRALES QUE AHORA NOS QUEDAN COMO MONUMENTOS PERO QUE EN SU EPOCA FUERON EXCEPCIONALES EDIFICACIONES QUE PROTEGIERON A PUEBLOS ENTEROS DE LA BRUTALIDAD, QUE MOSTRABAN LA RIQUEZA Y PROSPERIDAD DE LA REGION Y QUE LLENABAN DE ESPERANZA DIVINA A LOS FIELES. LA IMPERFECCION HUMANA, ME FUE MOSTRADA DESDE UNA NUEVA PERSPECTIVA, FECHORIAS QUE AHORA NO PASAN DESAPERCIBIDAS ERAN COMUNES EN LA EPOCA MEDIEVAL.

Y LA TENACIDAD Y RESISTENCIA MOSTRADA POR LA MAYORIA DE LOS PERSONAJES ES INCREIBLE, PERSONAJES DE DIFERENTE CIRCULO, NIVELES DE EDUCACION Y CONVICCIONES TODOS COMPARTEN LA CAPACIDAD DE SUPERAR LOS RETOS DE LA VIDA SIN DESERTAR.

EL LIBRO VALE MUCHO LA PENA YO LE DOY UN 8.9 DE 10, ME PARECE EXCELENTE LIBRO Y ESTA BIEN ESCRITO Y MAS PARA SER LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE ESTE AUTOR APUESTA POR EL GENERO DE LA NOVELA, PERO AL FINAL NO ME PUDE IMAGINAR 100% COMO QUEDO LA CATEDRAL MAS QUE GRANDE Y CON NUEVO DISENIO DE VENTANAS CRISTALIZADAS DE COLORES... ESO LE RESTO UNOS PUNTITOS, NO ES CULPA DEL AUTOR, PERO IGUAL ME QUEDE UN POCO EN EL AIRE EN ESE SENTIDO. ESPERO QUE LES GUSTE!!!!!

An Alternative Ending for The Hours Prologue...

Based on the book "The Hours" written by Michael Cunningham. A novel which describes Virginia Woolf's last hours... how she committed suicide. A Pulitzer Prize Winner.

MY ENDING...

... Leonard waves at the man who is wearing the red jacket, fishing, but the fisherman can't see him (can he?). He desperately looks for her ( is like something inside of him made him feel certain she was there), he looks so desperate that the mother (holding the child), looking at him from a certain distance thinks he is crazy.

With no luck at all, he decides to go back to his house. On his way back, he can see the man on the potato colored vest, John, ( He is almost sure that is his name) who is still cleaning the ditch. Leonard asks John if he had seen Virginia (his wife), John wasn't sure though he described The strange-looking woman, in a rush, wearing a long coat ( He'll find out later that he was the last person who saw Virginia alive). Leonard is finally home, he tries to interrogate the maid over and over about his wife last moments, as if he wanted to know with detail even the most insignificant thing she did, which at that particular time seemed so important (at least to him). Then, Leonard runs upstairs, (he perfectly understood the letter, however, what if he was the crazy one and Virginia is just with Vanessa?, he knows that can not be possible, as he thought about it for a second time, it sounded so non-commonsensical, so illogical, but he wants to escape from reality or maybe what he doesn't like, is the idea of going through all this by himself... yes, that is why he is now running to Vanessa's room 'cause it's too much for him to handle), in front of her room, he takes a deep breath and opens the door just in time to find Vanessa deeply immersed in what she is reading. It's a letter, a blue envelope on the floor. He watches her tears coming out as she reads:

Dear Vanessa;

Since you were born you have given me nothing but happiness.

Being your mother was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I was the one who was supposed to care of you and not the other way around like it's been for the last years. God knows how much I love you, and loving you the way I do, all I want is for you to be happy, which is not going to happen if you have to deal with one of my crises again.

Oh my dear, they are coming back. I can hear their voices. I won't be able to escape this time. Although I'm going mad, I'm still sane enough to do the right thing: I have to end with my life!

Vanessa, please be strong, life is a precious gift. Too short for me to spoil it for you. My flesh won't be with you by the time you read this letter, but my love for you is immortal.

Always with you,

V.

Vanessa looks up and realizes that Leonard has been staring at her the whole time. Without thinking, they hug each other so tight, sorrowfully feeling the same way...

Happy-Virginia won't have to face one more crisis-, Sad-without her, emptiness is overtaking them-, Angry- how come they were not there when she needed them the most?-, Hurt-dealing with her every time she went up and down was rough, realizing that she's for ever gone is even more painful than they could ever imagine-, Terrified- not knowing how she died, was it a long agony?-, but probably the worst of all feelings is the growing sensation that part of them died along with her.

As days pass by, the grieving process becomes harder and harder besides their loss, they have to accept the fact that given the circumstances of her death they will not have the chance to get the last physical detachment-a burial- in a proper way like it is supposed to be (or so they thought).

TWO MONTHS LATER...

The man, with a red jacket, fishing, found her body. Her purple face, looks as beautiful as it was when she was focused in one of her writings, sitting in her habitual green chair inside her room, next to the bed. Now in a different kind of room, all her family and friends crying, her body surrounded by her favourite flowers: white roses... as Vanessa reads a passage from one of her novels. Leonard staring at his wife's corpse suddenly feels peace, the kind of peace he's been looking for since the day she left. He is crying though he could swear it feels like smiling. He is aware of Virginia death, she is no longer there with him (not alive), but images of her and flashes of sweet memories of a life together are so vivid, so strong that her spirit, her presence will remain within his heart, mind and soul now and beyond...

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.~Thomas Campbell, "Hallowed Ground"
